Twinwood Vintage Festival
The Twinwood festival is held every August Bank Holiday weekend at the former RAF training base in Clapham, Bedfordshire. It is a celebration of all things vintage... music, fashion, hair & dance! The legendary Big Band leader Glen Miller & his Orchestra regularly performed here & it was from Twinwood that he took his final & fateful flight to France. His plane mysteriously disappeared & he was never seen again. There is a museum dedicated to him as well as several other museums showcasing aviation, motor transport, WW2 displays & a replica RAF airmans billet. The museums make a great day out any month of the year, on Sundays or Bank Holidays only though.
A day or weekend at Twinwood is an unforgettable experience! There is constant live music & dancing either on the main stage or in the smaller bars & clubs dotted around, till late in the evening. Dance lessons showing you how to jive, Lindy Hop or do the Charleston Stroll, with classes for all abilities including beginners. Vintage fashion stalls with clothing from the 20's, 30's, 40's, 50's, & 60's, hair salons & barbers to get that vintage style, Mr & Mrs Vintage competition, vintage car displays & endless venues to eat, drink & be merry! Daily or entire weekend tickets can be purchased & caravan & camping facilities are available, 2 fields with electric hook up. Please note, if you are camping, you must purchase a full 3 day entrance ticket. Also available is glamping in luxurious tents & luxury pop up yurts, arena boxes & marquees with tables. Bladon Chains in Oxfordshire is a Caravan & Motorhome Club site located in the grounds of the Blenheim Palace estate. It's a beautiful site, surrounded by mature trees & overlooking a green pasture where the sheep graze. The site is easily accessed from a main road & the road through the site follows a meandering figure of eight which is pleasant to walk or cycle. If you are pitched alongside the main road it can be noisy, but we were situated on the opposite side overlooking the field where sheep grazed up & down the pasture all day..... it was perfect! The site is very well maintained & the wardens are pleasant & helpful, there are toilet, shower blocks & disabled facilities, dish washing area, a laundry room & dog walking area. A fish & chip van visits on a Wednesday & a steak & frites van visits on a Sunday...... delicious!!!

We joined a free walking tour of the city, visiting all the key landmarks, it was really informative & great fun! The market town of Woodstock is at the top of the main road as you leave the site, a beautiful little town with art galleries, antique shops, cafes, restaurants, bars, bakeries & a Co-op supermarket. There is also The Oxfordshire Museum which is a great way to pass a few hours, it incorporates the Soldiers of Oxfordshire Museum, has a dinosaur garden & interactive dinosaur gallery, a garden & cafe. New Lodge Farm, Northamptonshire
We visited New Lodge Farm Touring Caravan Park in Northamptonshire. It's an adults only site set amongst beautiful farmland with fully serviced pitches, cafe, bar, farm shop & more! The site is owned by Simon & Sarah Singlehurst & in fact they sell their famous Singlehurst Sausages in the farm shop...... They're the best sausages we've ever tasted!!! The shop boasts an incredible range of fresh produce from the farm itself & neighbouring farms which includes fresh fruit & veg, a variety of fresh meats, fresh bread, wine selection & more. The facilities block which houses the toilets, showers, dishwashing room & laundry are converted from the original Victorian dairy parlour, beautifully renovated & spotlessly clean. We had incredibly warm weather when we stayed there, it's a fabulous place to stay, here's what we found. For more information please click here: New Lodge Farm

It's a nice site with plenty of mature trees & landscaping, all of the spacious 88 pitches are hard standing with electric hook up. They have shower & toilet facilities & a laundry room. This is a great place to stay if you're visiting Bath! Particularly with the Park & Ride available. We visited just as the city was preparing for the Christmas market. We'll have to go again as we missed out on that particular experience but the attractions in Bath were incredible! The Roman Baths, The Abbey, The Royal Crescent.....Highly recommended! Pontcysyllte Aqueduct
We went to Wales & crossed the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct. It is the tallest canal aqueduct in the world & the longest aqueduct in the UK, built by Thomas Telford & William Jessop. Construction was completed in 1805,  it took 10 years to design & build. In 2009 it was awarded official UNESCO World Heritage Site status, an exclusive & impressive status awarded to world famous sites like The Pyramids, The Taj Mahal & The Great Wall of China! Boat trips are available across the aqueduct or you can just walk across. It is an amazing & breath taking experience albeit kind of scary! Definitely worth a visit if you're in the North Wales area. We did struggle with the pronunciation though! Here's what we found. For more information please click here:

Beverley Park, Paignton, Devon
Beverley Holiday Park is in the heart of the English Riviera in Paignton, Devon. The touring caravan area is situated on a cliff top with superb views over the sea, it really is a beautiful location. Our pitch was of generous size & we also had our own wooden picnic table & benches. As well as touring pitches, they also have static caravan holiday rentals & holiday lodges with hot tubs. We visited in early October so it wasn't busy but imagine it could be very crowded in the holiday periods. The toilet & shower facilities are good with hairdryers & shaving points. There is a washing up area & on-site launderette. It has an indoor pool with jacuzzi, sauna, steam room & gym & also an outdoor pool (closed when we visited). There are sister sites a very short distance away, where facilities are also available for you to use if you so desire. There is evening entertainment, restaurants, takeaways, additional pools etc, none of which we used, we made our own entertainment!
Access to the holiday village is very straightforward, off a main, wide road. Please note, many of the roads in this part of the country are very hilly with a lot of steep inclines...... be warned! There are endless places to visit in the surrounding areas of Paignton, Brixham & Torquay, we only stayed for 5 days & squeezed in lots of things. Highlights for us were the Model Village in Babbacombe, Torquay Marina & the English Rivieria Wheel, The Golden Hind in Brixham, Greenway a National Trust property which was the beloved holiday home of renowned author Agatha Christie, Coleton Fishacre another NT property that has been preserved in the Art Deco style with 24 acres of beautiful gardens & Kents Cavern, a network of prehistoric caves dating back 500,000 years, a great day out! Chateau Du Gandspette, France
We decided to venture overseas again & chose Chateau du Gandspette in Eperlecques, Nord Pas De Calais, as it is only about 30 minutes from Calais or Dunkirk, so an easy trip for nervous beginners! We planned our routes, booked the site, made sure we had everything we needed legally wise for travelling abroad (hi-vis jackets, head lamp deflectors, hazard warning sign etc) & off we set. The route into Dover to catch the ferry couldn't have been more straightforward, the road literally takes you straight through the town to the port.
After a short ferry crossing, it took us around 30 minutes to drive to Eperlecques. The roads in France are exceptionally well maintained! No pot holes to be seen! Gandspette is a fabulous site with 200 spacious touring pitches & beautiful landscaping, overlooked by the magnificent 19th century chateau. There is a restaurant, bar & terrace, takeaway meals, visiting morning bakery, 2 outdoor swimming pools, 1 of which is heated, tennis courts, fitness equipment, table tennis, sport pitches & nearby supermarket. Le Grand Large, France
We visited the Normandy region of France & stayed at Le Grand Large. It is a 5 Star site located right beside the sea with an incredible, endless beach of golden sand, very popular for wind surfing & paddle boarding. The pitches we found were on the small side, no spare room once your caravan, awning & car are in place but they are separated with hedges for privacy. They have 10 amp electric hook, water & drainage. Facilities include toilet & shower blocks, children's toilet & bath, disabled wash room, laundry room, washing up sinks, bar & terrace, snack takeaway & a small shop. There are 2 swimming pools - 1 heated, jacuzzi, paddling pool & children's play area.
We visited Utah D Day Landing beach on 6th June which marked the 74th Anniversary of the Landings. It was an incredible & emotional experience! We went to Utah Beach Museum where we met a Veteran from WW2 who had been part of the landings. The D Day Experience was another great visit where we experienced a flight simulation crossing the Channel ready to parachute into Normandy. The local towns were full of British, American & Canadian flags, people in uniform, vintage army vehicles...... It was incredible! A fabulous & historic area to visit. Incleborough Fields, Norfolk
Incleborough Fields is a 5* rated CaMC site in West Runton, Norfolk. It has 261 pitches positioned on terraces, some with a sea view. Some pitches are sloping so be sure to bring your levelling blocks! The facilities are of the usual high CaMC standard & include toilet & shower block, disabled shower block, family washroom & laundry room. A small train station is conveniently located a short walk from the site, from where you can visit Sheringham & Cromer or travel further along the line into Norwich. We visited in September during the annual Sheringham & Holt 1940's weekend in association with the North Norfolk Railway. The two towns step back in time to encompass the 1940's atmosphere. The towns are transformed back to the era, civilian & military attire is worn, there's music, dancing, parades, vintage vehicles, re-enactments.....& so much more! The steam train runs between Sherinham & Holt, an experience in itself! Tickets for your journey must be purchased in advance of the weekend. A thoroughly enjoyable weekend! Hurley Riverside Park, Henley on Thames
Hurley Riverside Park is an independent 4* site located between Henley on Thames & Marlow. It has a very picturesque position, right on the edge of the River Thames, with direct access to the tow path & a vast play/picnic area. It is a large site, cleverly divided into 5 individual areas, so it doesn't feel large or impersonal. Facilities include 3 heated toilet & shower blocks, disabled facilities,  launderette, childrens playground & nature trail. Nature abounds here, it is very nicely landscaped with lots of mature tress & shrubs, Red Kites swirl overhead which is a treat to watch in itself, along with the myriad of bunny rabbits! Lytton Lawn, Milford on Sea
We had fabulous weather whilst we stayed here & spent a day at both Bournemouth beach & Boscombe beach. Another really great day out was to Highcliffe Castle. This cliff top mansion has undergone extensive renovation & was at one time the holiday home of Mr Harry Selfridge of Selfridge's department store. He adored visiting here with his family & he, his wife & his mother are buried in the grounds of St Mark's church just across the road. Stratford Riverside Park
Stratford Riverside Park is in the heart of the Warwickshire countryside nestled in a beautiful location alongside the banks of the River Avon. It is an all grass site with electric hook up for approximately 100 caravans, motorhomes & RV's.  On arrival you are escorted to your pitch & asked to position your jockey wheel on a plastic disc in the ground to create uniformity with other vehicles. Facilities include clean & well maintained toilet & shower blocks with underfloor heating, disabled facility, laundry room, washing up area & childrens playground. On site is a very impressive restaurant & bar with a vast outdoor balcony to enjoy the surrounding views. For a small fee, a riverside taxi is available that runs throughout the day & is a fantastic way to get into Stratford Upon Avon. On the journey you will see an abundance of wildlife including swans, ducks, herons & kingfishers. Alternatively, if you prefer to walk, it is approximately 25 minutes.
Stratford Upon Avon is a fabulous place to visit. It is a beautiful town, steeped in history with many timber framed Tudor buildings. It is most famous for being the birthplace of our most illustrious playwright William Shakespeare in 1564. The house where he was born & grew up in is in Henley Street & provides a fascinating insight into his life including rare artefacts & collections, family tales & live performances.  Also not to be missed & definitely worth a visit are Ann Hathaway's Cottage, the childhood home of his wife. His mothers childhood home, Mary Arden's Farm, a working Tudor farm full of interesting characters, buildings, farm animals & falconry displays. Hall's Croft, the beautifully furnished home of his daughter, Susanna, with its aromatic walled garden & Shakespeare's New Place, an exhibition built on the original site of the home where he died. The New Forest
The New Forest in Hampshire is a spectacularly beautiful area to visit. It is a vast area of heaths, trails & woodlands where ponies, donkeys, cattle, deer & pigs have the right to roam free. There are endless locations for touring & camping, we stayed at Sandy Balls but they no longer accept touring caravans, they do however, have static caravans & lodges to rent. A family favourite for a day out is Beaulieu Motor Museum, not only can you view the extensive car collection, there are incredible landscaped grounds, lake & gardens, the Montague family home Palace House, the 800 year old Abbey, monorail & vintage open top bus tour..... the list goes on! Another favourite is Buckler's Hard, an 18th century ship building village where Nelson's naval ships were built. Here you can step back in time to discover what it was to live & work in this period. Visit the maritime museum, shipwright's cottage, workshop & chapel or even take a river cruise. Places nearby & only a short drive include Bournemouth, Southampton & you could even take a trip to the Isle of Wight.
